You do realize that you do not have to stay at a hotel in order to go to the convention, right?

You realize having a hotel room makes it really convenient to get to the con, right? And also for the people who don't live near Detroit?

I'm just saying they should stop associating with a hotel with horrible business practices.

If by horrible practices you mean the GM rule, that both isn't the hotel's policy and, clearly, wasn't enforced. If you mean the elevator lines, that's by far a better solution to the free-for-all disaster of a few years ago. The Marriott hasn't always had the friendliest staff, but as for relationship with the con they've always been good. We could move to Greektown, but as noted elsewhere in this thread you need to be 21 to pass through the casino in order to get to the People Mover, and I'm not sure a casino would be comfortable with a con for fear we'd drive away as much business as we brought in.

Simply put, GM may hate us but that's GM's problem.

By "horrible business practices" I mean "they outright overcharged us and then tried siphoning more money after we had paid in full, in cash."

All hotels have deposit on their rooms, which might be what you're ralking about. The deposit ensures against damage or loss on the part of the hotel.

First off it is not law to carry an ID, it's a statue. So, it's not enforceable...it's clearly cover your **** policy. Secondly, it is youmacons fault that so many either lose or get items stolen because it forces them to carry around this information with no safe way to secure it, when you go to any 21+ bar or party, you are given a wrist band or something identifying you as 21+. There is no reason to force me to carry around my personal information, once i have registered. PERIOD

I'm hoping its just missing, but im afraid it was stolen; my purse went missing at the Marriott during dinner in the food court on Saturday.
My purse is a small jean backpack. The small pocket is completely broken, and in the big pocket is a ton of receipts and business cards, pads, tweezers, ChapStick, flashlight, sharpies and finally my husband's mechanical key to a volkswagon.
If anyone finds it or knows what happened to it, please contact me asap. I'm hoping it was just picked up by a kind con goer. They could not find it in the lost and found. :(

Not having the schedule printed in them was one thing, but not having panel descriptions, achievements, or even cover art was horrible. The program is an important part of the con experience and I hope those things come back.

I offered the convention this years achievement list and never heard back from them. Once it became obvious it wasn't going to get printed I decided not to do it as it's nearly impossible to get it into people's hands.

1. One of my biggest pet peeves were the people who were smoking their e-cigs inside the buildings. I don't care if they're safer than cigarettes, there's still crap in them and the vapors were being blown all over the place and on one occasion in my face. Not even small puffs, I swear some people were filling their lungs with them and blowing out large clouds of the stuff. I even saw a lady with an oxygen tank smoking one inside ._. not sure if she should've been doing that, but beyond my own inconveniences with the smoke it's none of my business.

2. Please put some sort of air freshener in the tabletop gaming room. Not even the kinds that you have to spray but perhaps the waxy scented thingies that you set around the room that are supposed to eat up odors and emit a scent. By Friday night that room smelled like a boiled vegetable induced ****. I tried to go in there to browse the game vendor collection but I honestly couldn't do it. It was nauseating. It was a shame because I really wanted to indulge in some board games but I have a sensitive nose and I could tell that odor would eventually make me feel sick.

3. Second year suggesting this but I think there should be staff, be it con or hotel, manning the elevators on Sunday. Like once an elevator is full just take it straight down so that it may get those people out soon and they don't slow everyone else down by stopping at every frickin floor just to tell the people it's full.

4. More diversity in guests in the future please. I think Youmacon should definitely push for more foreign guests who work in the industry, in music, and in fashion. Youmacon has a lot of repetitive guests and after attending for 4 years it's like "Same con, same guest, same panel, different year." I know there are a few staples and regulars, but some more diversity would be nice.

Other than that, I think the con was ran rather well. I especially loved the 30 minute gap between panels.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about the hotel, and I assume this these are younger less experienced people who do not realize that hotels have holding fees that they charge to cards for incidentals and damage done to the room while you stay there. Marriott's actually isn't that bad. Some hotels will charge you almost the full room cost in holding fees, Marriott just does $25 a night and you get it back. So for future reference, remember that all hotels will have holding fees.

And to the individual complaining about having to have an ID. You bet they're trying to cover their asses and it's their right to do so. It would be so easy for a minor to swap badges with someone should they implement 21 and older badges and I know so many would abuse that. And you know what? Eventually some uptight parent would find out and take action. It's not their fault you can't figure out a way to carry your ID around in a secure manner. I have never had an issue with this in the 10 years I've been attending conventions. I use a smaller wallet specifically for the convention and I suck it up and carry a bag around with me, that or I get an ID holder to clip to my lanyard with my badge which I also use to keep money in. It's secure and on me and in my sight. It's not that hard.

Not always true. E-cig liquids often don't have any nicotine in them, and the "smoke" isn't smoke at all but a water vapor/mist. Not to say of course that a fair share of them do still have trace amounts of nicotine in them (they come in different milligrams), but not always. And unfortunately there's nothing Youmacon can do about it, I'm pretty sure that it's a state-wide law and individual businesses choose whether to allow it or not. So it's up to Cobo / RenCen to make the call.

I can't remember which, but one year there was a hotel staff member manning whatever elevator I ended up on Sunday morning (and I saw them running a few others as well.) I was in and out within five minutes, and it's disappointing that wasn't something that continued on for later years. This year I had to wait nearly an hour for an elevator - of the six available, only three ever stopped on my floor in 45 minutes, and none of them ever stopped on the way down. I don't like going up to go down but I was given no choice this time.

I... agree with this. There's some guests I love seeing and it wouldn't feel like Youma without them, but the number of returning guests seems to be getting larger every year. There are some voice actors for example I would love to see but I have little hope each year since the number of new guests is so small.

I would accept that if it weren't a part of what we paid up front. On Saturday they charged 70 dollars twice on a card we told them not to charge to. Then 170 the Monday after that the company has had no record of.

I would say the Masquerade half-time show was allot better as far as young ones are concerned. Last year I almost had to remove my 12 year old sister.
