For those who accept credit/ debit, do you check for ID?

I was just pondering on this thought.

For those of you who sell and maybe use the square or any other credit acceptance device, do you check for ID?

If a customer did not have an ID what did you do?

I haven't checked for ID, but when I worked at lowe's, our policy was to check only if the purchase was over $25. I think for something expensive, I'd definitely check for ID, but for smaller purchases, it makes sense to follow the policy larger companies do. They have to sign, so the signature can always be compared if there's a question about it.

I guess I've just never thought about it much because I've never had someone make a huge purchase from me. ^_^;;

I've checked IDs only when it's a large amount, usually over 25-30 dollars.

I've never had anybody without an ID when I asked that, so I can't say what I would have done. I'd probably have to deny them the purchase which would be sad.
