I'm not letting it ruin me (I gave some hugs to the sign holders, and other times decline--sometimes with a whine greeting my decision, sometimes not). I guess my replies are about YOU (meaning sign holders in general) don't need to be defensive about people who don't like the signs either.

I'm all for banning the signs. I got to a ton of conventions, and over all it is a lot more relaxing without signs being stuffed in your face and asking to be hugged.

It really irks me in the long run. I mean one of the first things I remember saying the moment I enter the convention was "#$%@, they allow signs here?!"

Four times I got signs stuffed in my face, and I hate that! Don't give me the mopey look if I don't want a hug. In fact stop being so annoying and just look at what you are doing. With if your fourteen, want a hug and a thirty year old comes up, hugs you and grabs your butt? I'm sure you didn't want that...but guess what, its very possible.

And I am sure it did not help the conventions over all public appearance to the non con goers staying there to see a bunch of (generally) underage hormonal teenagers running around the con holding signs saying "FREE HUG LOLOL"

I don't mind random hugs in the long run, if I am ASKED. For cosplay and such, but at the point there is an equal amount discretion that can be made on my part.

Forcing and being IN YOUR FACE HUG ME NAOH! is seen as the same thing to people (especially if "no" is follwed by "DDD= Aww... WHY NOT??" or similar whining to varying degrees).

Not that this happened to me this year, but I've see it happen to others at past cons. We don't want it to get to that with Youmacon--we don't want a few bad eggs forcing the toys to be taken away from those behaving.

sorry that post was more whole thread then just you, mostly the ones that are BAN THE SIGNS, i never had one up in my face about hugs or chased down over it. to me i think they are over reacting, like Meesh, when they shoved the signs in ur face did u talk to con staff? and yea some perv might do that but thats like what i said dont let that 30yr perv, who i dont think i seen one >_> that wants to grab little girl butt..go onto something like this.

on a side note lets get off the whole "(generally) underage hormonal teenagers" thing
yes there are some that are 12-14
15-18 and older i seen them from all age groups yes im int the 18+group, an i wanted to go with a sign for it too. heck i seen a friend from my college there with a shirt that said it.
yes its all ur own option but you dnt need to force it on others, the ones that had the signs "up in there face" to me or over reacting and need to rethink it since i dotn hink a 5ft3 person can get a sign up in a 5ft 9 persons face.

See, this is why I just wear the sign (taped to my shirt), and let people ask me for a hug. I know from experience, it's not fun to be raped with hugs when you don't really want them. I think it would work out if everyone was just chillax about it, and went about doing it like it supposed to be done according to the rules ^__^.

i view "forcing" as the same thing as that. ><

and anyway, i just think it shouldn't be banned just because some people are rude and obnoxious. i mean, it'd be an injustice to non-rude hug-lovers. D: only if it gets to the point of everyone doing it, and i didn't notice anyone doing it at all this year, so why are people complaining? i understand complaining if it actually got bad, but it didn't...

Well, I was one of the people asking for Hugs. I personally didn't know it was irritating or annoying to others, Considering I love hugs. Sorry for inconveniencing anyone with my "hugging" fetish. [I was almost WHINING for hugs.] I really apoligize. :/ I'll make sure to take it into consideration next year and keep my hugging needs to a minimum. ^^"
I also didn't even know that there was rules about it. I just figured that maybe people didn't like holding the signs anymore? xO

I lol'd.

And yes, while it's all nice and dandy that an underage kid wants to give hugs, if a person over the age of 18 decides to hug them and someone watching freaks out and calls it sexual harrassment, that over 18 person is going to run into a lot of trouble.

Maybe don't ban the signs entirely, seeing as a few people have the apparent need to receive some sort of physical affection that they're otherwise deprived of.

Just ban the underage kids from doing it, or put them in a Shota Corner or something.

I see this from both sides of the coin...

Both sides have excellent points: I won't even deny how obscenely obnoxious when girls shove crudely colored signs demanding you to ~*HUG ME DESU =^O^=*~ and even more so when they feel the need to BAWWWW when you refuse the offer. I've had that happen to me before (though not this year) and I can emphasize with those who want to ban signs.

On the other hand, as annoying as they can be, I've come to believe that any person wanting a hug (save for maybe the creepy pedophile that lurks for lolis every blue moon) doesn't have any sinister intent behind it. The way I see it, cons make a person a bit bolder than they are in real life-- you're with people you can identify with easier than others and I guess those who have signs assume that the people they approach have similar mindsets like they do, when this obviously isn't the case. This is my opinion, however, and I doubt everyone will agree with it.

Both sides are absolutely right in different aspects, personally. Whether those who read this will agree with me, I can't say. I don't know if the staff at Youmacon will make the decision to b&hammer signs-- I won't be cheering or crying, if it comes to that-- but until then, I just kinda hope that whatever side you're on, people will try to be considerate of the other side as well.

I don't see what is so wrong about it. It brighten up my day when people want to hug me.

So are hugs evil?

And if sign's get banned then why don't we ban the boxes also,oh and don't forget about DOMO-kun. He is like a big sign himself if you look at it. And those other people like the domo-kun. They should be banned also.

Hey why don't we just Ban youmacon all together!

If you get my point then good. As for me Signs are not the problem.

While I don't agree with banning Domo (if your even serious), it is bothersome when people try and GLOMP a Domo. I was part of the security group, as I guess you could call it, for the shorter Domo, and it was a pain to keep people from knocking him around too badly. At one point he was even smashed into a wall, and ended up with a nosebleed. Simple hugs though weren't a problem.

I can see both sides of the fence, as I have been on both sides, but it's really up to con staff... Though I don't think it's so bad that it should be BANNED altogether...

Yeah, or just have a 4 man security detail for him like we did, lol. (Jay kay, that shouldn't HAVE to be done, we just had fun doing it.)
