Easing a sleeve in should be Eas-y?

It's going about like this...

*decides to sew the sleeves in today* This can't be too hard right?

*two hours later*
[incoherent sobbing]

It's just the lining sleeves, but there's puckers everywhere and it seems like the sleeves had 2-3" more diameter than the arm holes, which seems odd as I cut the patterns properly and the seams on everything are the proper 5/8" or so.

Anyone else have trouble putting in sleeves or is it just me, because I dread this part of costumes. Any advice?

You almost always have to baste and ease the top, unfortunately. (The pattern should have marked out a like 5" stretch along the top of the sleeve.) That's what allows them to be shoulder-shaped instead of just flat fabric.

I have a passionate hatred for sleeves, so you're not alone lol.
