How do YOU conquer post-con depression?

Postby Ashura09 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 7:49 pm

I figured I'd make a thread where experienced con-goers can share advice on getting past post-con depression. Cause let's face it, we've all experienced it and we all know it downright sucks.

Personally, I tend to watch funny videos to help distract me until it's not so much of a big deal to me anymore. It usually works too, so long as I don't run out of funny stuff to watch (rewatching stuff from before gets old fast)

Start preparing for the next con! Or at least that's what I'm doing right now, on top of staring at the awesome prints I got.

Honestly, I've been useless today. As I was coming home from work I was trying to figure out what I was going to do since I didn't have a costume that was in dire need of sewing. I ordered a prop I'm hoping to practice with for next year and have been drinking manga while thinking about how I should really be going to bed early today.

I agree, just start planning for the next con! Plan cosplays too, sometimes those take awhile

I didn't have too much post-con depression this year. I dunno. Just didn't enjoy youmacon as much.

I get started on cosplays for the following year. I find that that seems to help for the most part. However, I tend to end up with quite a few costumes to take to Youmacon at the end of the year. I guess I just need more cons to go to. :|

I'm usually depressed for the first few days after a con, but the way I conquer it is looking back at photos and videos and I try to get hyped up for the next con that's coming up!

Sorting through my photos and looking for ones of myself to tag. Editing videos I took. Watching anime. Eating Japanese candy. Eating Americanized Japanese/Chinese food. Hentai.

Regular depression :(

Also, sharing cosplay pics online and telling the fun stories from the weekend always helps.

I used to get post con depression really bad back when I was only going to 1-2 cons per year. But now that I go to 4+, there's no time to be depressed! When one con ends, I already need to start thinking about and planning for the next one. There are so many cosplays I have planned that I don't think I'll have time for depression for years to come (unless my wallet takes an unexpected hit)

But back when that wasn't the case, I found the best remedy was watching anime/reading manga. I was lucky enough to have a great library with lots of manga (and was able to loan manga from other libraries when I read everything they had). I'd check out 10-20 volumes at a time, and binge read them all within a week. Those were the good ol' days of lots of free time and little responsibilities...
